“Workshop on Development and Use of Instructional Materials" for TED Schools 1st Group Mathematics Teachers was held by Dr. Zerrin TOKER, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, on 29-30 September 2018. 1. Group of 38 TED Schools across Turkey, consisted of mathematics teachers from TED Ankara, TED Batman, Corum TED TED Diyarbakır, TED Elazıg, TED Eskişehir, TED Kayseri, TED Konya, TED Konya Ereğli, TED Malatya, TED Polatlı TED Renaissance, TED Sivas and TED Van Colleges. Totally, 32 teachers were participated.
During the workshop, teachers had the opportunity to reflect on their current practices in various issues, such as their perceptions about teaching materials, the properties of teaching materials, the importance of using instructional materials, the advantages and difficulties of using instructional material, the different stages that require using material. They had the chance to see many examples of materials developed by Dr. Toker supported by essential ideas, focusing on conceptual understanding and skill acquisition. In addition to these, teachers took an active role in the material design process with their teaching materials developed in the light of their essential ideas.
Workshop for the 2nd and 3rd group teachers of TED Schools will continue in November and December. On November 17-18, TED Adana, TED Gaziantep, TED Isparta, TED Karabük, TED Kdz. Ereğli, TED North Cyprus, TED Mersin, TED Samsun, TED Sanlıurfa, TED Trabzon and TED Zonguldak College teachers will attend. Then, on December 15-16, with TED Aliaga, TED Alanya, TED Antalya, TED Atakent, TED Bodrum, TED Bursa, TED Denizli, TED Ege, TED Istanbul, TED İzmir and TED Kocaeli College teachers, workshop will be held.
