We Met with TED Ankara College Math Teachers!

TED University Education Faculty Department of Mathematics and Science Education met with TED Middle School Mathematics Teachers within the context of school and university cooperation during the seminar period.

The aim of this two-day seminar is to combine theoretical and practical areas to share about teaching mathematics. In this context, Assist. Prof. Dr. Elçin Emre Akdoğan, one of the academicians of our department, made a presentation about subjects such as “What is learning?”, “Mathematical learning processes”, "Reflecting students' thinking on teaching" and, "Teaching scenarios” under the title of "Being aware of student thinking”. In addition to this study, our research assistant Gözde Can made a presentation about “Misconceptions“.

In the afternoon, head of our department Assist. Prof. Dr. Zerrin Toker continued to give information about “Definition, Classification, and Development of Skills" under the title of "Mathematical Skills”. Then, practical activities were held to improve mathematical skills.

On the second day, our program started with the application of mathematical modeling activity implemented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Alkaş Ulusoy, one of the academicians of our department, with the teachers. After the event, Dr. Ulusoy gave a seminar titled "What is mathematical modeling?”, “What is the contribution of mathematical modeling to the teaching process?", "Examples of mathematical modeling applications”. Afterwards, our research assistant Gizem Güzeller made her presentation on “Activity/mathematical task design process”.

In the afternoon, a workshop was organized by presenting practical examples to our teachers about the activity design and lesson plan preparation process.
