Many students view mathematics as a difficult, abstract, and male domain subject. For many students, mathematicians are middle aged, bespectacled, bold or messy men always working at blackboard or computer. Students’ these images of mathematics and mathematicians may impact their attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics achievement. For mathematics educators, it is therefore important to aim to influence students’ current mathematics and mathematician images.
This TEDU400 seminar, given by Dr. Vesife Hatısaru, focused on a study aiming to explore students’ images of mathematics and mathematicians in Ankara, Turkey.
